Our broadband got disconnected late last week! Our phone got disconnected a couple of weeks ago since we hadn't paid the phone bill, but the internet just kept on working! Except then on friday last week, our pay-as-you go power ran out. After I pressed the emergency credit button the internet didn't work.
What I think is happening is that since the modem was connected before our phone got disconnected, it just stayed connected even though the phone was disconnected. But when the power was cut, the modem wouldn't re-connect.
It's kinda good in a way, because it means that I have to find something else to do for the week off besides sitting on the internet. But I think we're going to pay the bill soon, and get it back on. As it's going to be pretty hard to do uni without the net.

That's quite intriguing that the Internet would stay connected even after the phone got disconnected. I guess 'disconnected' doesn't mean it was physically disconnected but merely that somewhere in the phone system your number had been disabled. There must be a flag that says "Don't let humphrey make or receive phone calls or connect to the Internet". They just assume that most ppl don't leave it connected 24/7. :)
